The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships 2024 announces medal results

The medal winners of the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships (CSWWC) were announced September 16th with a total of 167 Gold and 229 Silver Medals awarded in this year’s competition.

Now in its 11th Year, the CSWWC has firmly established itself as the world’s toughest and most prestigious sparkling wine competition, respected globally for its rigorous and uniquely consistent judging process conducted exclusively by the world’s most experienced sparkling specialists.

All the Gold & Silver medal winners can be found HERE

This year saw close to 1000 sparkling wines judged over 11 days from 20 countries worldwide  at the iconic Goodnestone Park in Kent, England.

Italy once again took the top of the leader board for the most medals triumphing with 70 Gold 123 Silver medals. Next was France who took home 55 Gold medal’s and 36 Silver medals. Australia took third place on the medal leader board closely followed by Spain, with the UK making up the top five.

While Italy and France continue to dominate in terms of the number of their entries, the diversity of entries the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships receives from countries and regions around the world continues to be second to none.

Judge Essi Avellan MW commented “We were thrilled with the quality of the whole range of wines that we tasted this year. This has been another great year for results, once again demonstrating how exciting the sparkling wine industry is. It is not only the CSWWC’s mission to promote world class wines, but also to discover and reward new and exciting wines from established and emerging regions across the world!”

The Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year Trophy once again goes to Trentodoc producer Ferrari. This award is not decided by any arbitrary system but strictly according to the highest number of Gold medals won each year, and with no less than 13 Gold medals Ferrari has now won this prestigious accolade for the fourth consecutive year and as many as seven times in total. However, a few contenders this year were snapping at their heels for this award – look out 2025!

Tom Stevenson, Founder and Chairman of the CSWWC, commented “Over 11 years, this competition has established beyond doubt who the very best sparkling winemakers around the world are by their wines consistently winning top honours, yet every year brings success for new regions and for new producers in established regions.   What’s terrific is that the medal wines come from both the largest and smallest producers, from private enterprises and high-flying cooperatives, from the long established to newcomers, and in recent years from a sudden rush of organic producer.

Stevenson continues “Although the CSWWC does not award medals lower than Silver, the judges take a keen interest in theoretical Bronze winners. It is important for those producers to understand that they could be on the verge of achieving a world class sparkling wine. There were 309 theoretical Bronze medal wines this year.”

The Best in Class and Trophy winners will be revealed at this year’s CSWWC Awards Dinner on the 24th October in London.
