In Master of Wine Essi Avellan’s master class, the absolute pinnacle of the Champagne world meets top-tier caviar. Internationally acclaimed Champagne expert Essi Avellan—who serves as a judge for leading wine publications and Champagne panels—presents a unique selection of highly limited, storied prestige Champagnes.
The tasting showcases Avellan’s personal favourites across a range of styles: from the pure Chardonnay elegance of Dom Ruinart to the monumental depth of Pinot Noir in Bruno Paillard’s N.P.U. Representing the very highest echelon of grower Champagne, Ulysse Collin’s majestic Les Enfers single-vineyard Chardonnay takes centre stage as a profound expression of site. The long lees-aged Dom Pérignon P2 2008 captivates with its perfect harmony and luxuriously silky texture. The experience culminates in a sublime mature vintage—Palmer & Co Blanc de Blancs Collection 1995—enriched by extended lees ageing and served, fittingly, in magnum.
The experience is completed by pairing the Champagnes with two exceptional caviars. This master class offers deep insight into both Champagne and caviar under the guidance of Essi Avellan and an expert from Bordeaux-based Sturia Caviar. This is a master class that reaches the very highest peak.
Master of Wine Essi Avellan is an internationally recognized champagne expert. An author and prolific Champagne correspondent, she belongs to Club Oenologique and World of Fine Wine magazines’ tasting panels and is a jury member at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships and sparkling wine panel chair at the International Wine and Spirit Competition.
