Grand Champagne Helsinki 2015 – The bubbliest weekend ever

 

On May 8th and 9th the Old Student House in the very center of Helsinki gathered together over 3,000 champagne lovers, gourmands and wine professionals. Our guests from Champagne included Clovis Taittinger (Champagne Taittinger), Frédéric Panaïotis (Champagne Ruinart), Hubert de Billy (Champagne Pol Roger), Gauthier Vecten (Champagne Henri Giraud), Edouard Cossy (Champagne Laurent-Perrier), and Thomas Lignier (Champagne G.H. Mumm).

 

The crowds had a selection of over 150 champagnes to choose from and over 600 people took part to the guided Master Classes. The champagnes were accompanied to some great bites, from oysters and caviar to gourmet hotdogs and charcuterie.

 

The top wines from great houses popped open during the weekend included FINE Champagne’s ‘Best Champagne for 2015’ Dom Ruinart Rosé 2002, Salon 2002, Laurent-Perrier Alexandra Rosé 2004, Krug Clos du Mesnil 2000, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2005, 2000 and 1998, Dom Ruinart 2004, 2002, 1996, 1993 and 1990, as well as Pol Roger Vintages 2004, 2002, 2000, 1998 and 1996.

 

On the grower champagne front the champagne aficionados had the chance to savour Cédric Bouchard Roses de Jeanne Les Ursules NV, Jacques Lassaigne Le Cotet Blanc de Blancs NV, Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Les Béguines NV, Bérêche & Fils Le Cran 2007, Benoit Lahaye Vintage 2008, Vilmart & Cie Cour de Cuvée 2004, Pierre Gimonnet Special Club 2006, Pierre Peters Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV, J.L. Vergnon Confidence 2008, and many more.
