Over three days, leading members of the international wine community will gather in Brighton to share ideas and meet with others involved in the wine business.
Since 1984, a community of international wine professionals has met every four years to discuss the issues surrounding the production of wine in cool climates. These meetings have become key events, where front-line research and innovative techniques have been presented, many wines have been tasted and lasting friendships established.
Following on from the highly successful symposia held in the United States, New Zealand, Germany, and Australia, the 9th International Cool Climate Wine Symposium will be held in England in May 2016, one of the newest and most dynamic wine regions of the world.
The Symposium’s base in Brighton also offers a great opportunity to discover the English wine industry, and to get to know the British wine trade, one of the most innovative in the world.
And this Symposium is more than just a conference. There will be vineyards/winery visits, the first Sussex International Food and Wine Festival, the annual Brighton Arts Festival, wonderful restaurants in Brighton and the surrounding area to explore, and of course, evening networking events and the Symposium gala dinner.
Essi Avellan MW will be conducting a tasting and presentation of English Sparkling Wines on April 26th
The UK sparkling wine industry is a young one and the first English and Welsh sparkling wines made using the classic Champagne varieties were not produced until the late 1980s. Since then, the number of producers has risen and the quality of English and Welsh sparkling wines gets better every year as the tally of medals and awards in both national and international competitions shows. In the last ten years, the UK vineyard area has grown by three times with many of the newer entrants devoted solely to sparkling wine using the classic Champagne varieties.
This session will showcase the full range of sparkling wine styles being produced in the UK, tasting wines from a variety of producers and vintages from across the regions. It will also address where the UK is now in terms of quality and discuss where it might be in 20 years’ time.
